Tax, both personal and corporate, is becoming more and more complex as time goes on. Self-assessment is now well and truly with us whether we like it or not.

Compliance is onerous and the deadlines that we have to meet are many and varied. Most of them are shown on my self-assessment page. Penalties for not meeting them are mandatory and can make life very expensive.

Help is at hand if you need it

The self-assessment forms are complicated in themselves and are therefore difficult to complete. Calculations of tax liabilities are even more complex.

Indeed, we read in the press that calculations made by the Inland Revenue cannot be relied on to be accurate. Indeed, if you miss the first deadline for filing, you have to make the calculation yourself.
